‘Celebrity Big Brother’ Season 1 Finale Recap: Marissa Wins, 6 Votes To 3
3.5/5
The Celebrity Big Brother finale aired last night, closing out the show’s first season.
CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER FINALE RECAP
The episode started off with just five left in the Big Brother house. For the Head of Household competition, Ari, Mark, Ross and Marissa fought in a ski-themed challenge that required balance. Omarosa, the outgoing HOH, sat tight as the others competed for her title.
At this stage in the game, Omarosa and Ari are allied, while Marissa is close to Ross. Ross, however, makes it clear that he wants it to be Mark and himself in the final two. Mark trusts Ross, but feels has to “assert dominance and win some of these competitions all by myself.”

The first to fall is Marissa, followed by Ari, and then it appears that Mark allows Ross to win in a deal. Winner Ross puts up Omarosa and Ari for eviction. Ross also manages to win the Power of Veto competition, in which the contestants had to associate major events with the days they take place on while suspended from a harness. As per his plan, Ross evicts Omarosa, and she is the first to leave in the finale episode.
“We are facing a pivotal moment in this country, but we cannot allow hatred, division and bigotry to tear us down,” Omarosa said as she left. “We are one nation under God, and with the power of the vote, the ballot and bringing our diversity to allow us to unite, we can change this country to be together, united under God.”
The remaining four then play #HashItOut, which sees the final four identify various statements and jabs on Twitter. Marissa falters on the last question, resulting in a three-way tie between her, Mark and Ross. The way they settle ties on Big Brother is to have the contestants guess how many seconds long the previous HOH competition was. Marissa manages the closest guess and gets the power to choose who will sit beside her in the final two.
Just before evictions, host Julie Chen allows Mark, Ari and Ross to make their final pleas to Marissa before she chooses. After, Marissa chooses Ross to go ahead in the game. It seemed at this point that the jury would surely choose Ross, as the social, no-pressure player. When the two made their pleas to the jury, Marissa talked and talked, and even talked up her competitor Ross.
“The truth is many of the things I did with Ross, he came to me with the great ideas… I tried to listen to what Ross said and incorporated what Ross was bringing me and tried not to freak out,” Marissa responded when Shannon asked why she should vote for her over Ross.
On the other hand, Ross gave a cohesive answer to a similar question: “You have to stay true to your character in this game… You have to be able to pivot to an opening or away from a closed door. As the power shifts in the house, you have to be flexible as well. You also have to choose a ride or die.”
In the end, however, Marissa beat Ross, six votes to three.
