Celebrities Support World AIDS Day

This year activists are taking steps to raise money for World AIDS Day 2011 by refraining from social media. It's all a part of Alicia Keys' Keep a Child Alive charity, which encourages celebrities to maintain their silence on Twitter and other social media platforms until $1 million is raised to support young victims of HIV/AIDS in underdeveloped areas.

This year followers may be suffering withdrawal from the periodic updates of stars Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Ellen DeGeneres and Ryan Seacrest, who are participating by keeping mum on social sites, according to ITWeb.

Gaga is contributing with more than just her silence. She's also sealing her lips for MAC's new Viva Glam Lipstick and Lipglass, which is launching today to help profit the MAC AIDS Fund, according to handbag.com. Thus far the fund has raised over $235 million with the help of its Viva Glam sales and its Glam spokespersons — Gaga, Mary J. Blige and Elton John.

MAC makeup artists are also volunteering to raise money across London. "It is so inspiring … to see firsthand the immense impact the MAC AIDS Fund has on individuals living with and affected by HIV/ AIDS," said MAC Senior Artist Neil Young.
