Celebrities have been paying tribute to Tom Petty, who passed away following a heart attack at age 66.

CELEBS PAY TRIBUTE TO TOM PETTY

Musicians and other celebrities took to social media to speak about the influential rocker. Others released their own statements. “It’s shocking, crushing news. I thought the world of Tom. He was a great performer, full of light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him,” said Bob Dylan in a statement to Rolling Stone. “I’m shocked and saddened by the news of Tom’s passing, he’s such a huge part of our musical history, there’ll never be another like him,” said Eric Clapton.

Olivia and Dhani Harrison spoke on behalf of the estate of George Harrison that, “Tom was a tender southern gent in life, a poet and a music master on stage. He had a rocking chair wisdom that brought everything back… down to earth. We will love and miss him for the rest of our days. Our thoughts are with his family and all the [broken hearts].”

Sheryl Crow added her condolences to social media. “This is unbearable. Vegas and now a great music hero has passed. You brought us so much joy, @TomPetty. We will miss you,” the singer/songwriter wrote.

John MayerJoe Elliott of Def Leppard, Alice CooperRyan Adams, and Brian Wilson added their voices to the Twitter conversation as well.

Famed music producer Jack Antonoff wrote a series of tweets to share his sorrow over the death. “Tom Petty changed my life,” he began. “There is a reference to him in everything i’ve ever written. i love his work and life. don’t come around here no more changed the way i looked at songwriting and production. so odd and complex yet direct all at once. that’s TP. those records live forever. i’m so grateful for tom petty and what he taught all of us. what a day. tom petty forever and gun control NOW. all there is to say.”
