June 2 marks National Doughnut Day, and various chains around the country are helping you celebrate with fun deals.

NATIONAL DOUGHNUT DAY DEALS

Despite what some may think, National Doughnut Day actually has some historical significance. The day has been celebrated since 1938 when it was founded to honor the female Salvation Army members, called Lassies, who served doughnuts to soldiers in WWI.

Cumberland Farms newly renovated convenience stores are giving out free doughnuts to customers who buy a hot or iced coffee, tea, fountain soda, or HYPERFREEZE drink between 5 am and 10 am this morning.

Duck Donuts are offering free doughnuts with any purchase made all day today. Plus, anyone who retains their receipt from June 2 will get a BOGO coupon for a box of a half dozen treats, redeemable through Aug. 31.

Dunkin’ Donuts is celebrating the day as well, by offering a free classic doughnut with any beverage purchase today.

Entenmann’s, instead of a daily deal, is hosting a sweepstakes from May 17 through July 15, with winners eligible for free doughnuts for an entire year. In New York City, Entenmann’s is hosting special activities between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Times Square and Yankee Stadium.

Krispy Kreme is getting in on the action as well, just offering straight-up free doughnuts – no other purchase necessary.

LaMar’s Donuts is offering two Doughnut Day deals. One can print out a coupon for a free standard doughnut at any of their locations. Their stores in select cities are giving away free travel mugs to visitors on June 2.

Tim Hortons is offering a free classic doughnut with the purchase of a brewed hot or iced coffee today only.
