Ramon Arguelles, a Roman Catholic bishop in the Philippines, believes that Madonna’s two-day concert in the Philippines should be avoided at all costs.
Ramon Arguelles, who serves as the archbishop of Lipa City, has urged Filipino Catholics to skip Madonna’s concerts so that they can avoid the “subtle attacks of the evil one.”
“Pinoys and all God-loving people should avoid sin and occasions of sin,” Arguelles added in a statement. “Why is the Catholic Philippines the favorite venue for blasphemy against God and the Holy Mother?”
He continued, “Let us pray for our country that the devil will not succeed to draw anyone from this Pueblo Amante De Maria to his evil ways.”
Arguelles also believes that Madonna’s name is an affront to the Catholic religion, saying, “She is just using (“Madonna”) to taunt Mother Mary.”
Incidentally, Madonna arrived in the Philippines ahead of her concert dates and spent Monday visiting Catholic-run orphanages in the country, which is roughly 80% Catholic.
Despite Arguelles urgings for people to boycott Madonna’s concerts, they seem to have gone on without a hitch. However, the next stop on Madonna’s Rebel Heart tour – Singapore – will also be surrounded by some backlash from religious leaders.
