Catherine Zeta-Jones Honors Kirk Douglas At Golden Globes 2018, Douglas Has Difficulty Speaking [VIDEO]

Kirk Douglas was honored with a video tribute and also made an appearance at the 75th annual Golden Globes on Sunday, and his own daughter-in-law  Catherine Zeta-Jones stood by him onstage for the tribute.

Douglas, the father of fellow actor Michael Douglas, turned 101 years old on December 9. He sat in a wheelchair onstage and said a few words following the video compilation of his greatest films, although he unsurprisingly had trouble enunciating clearly.

Zeta-Jones began by recalling how Douglas was honored by the Writer’s Guild of America in 1991 for his role in ending the Hollywood blacklist, which included the names of screenwriters whose scripts were banned for a variety of reasons.

One such blacklisted screenwriter Douglas worked with was Dalton Trumbo, who penned the script for the 1960 film Spartacus. Trumbo’s name was not credited on the Oscar-winning film, and Douglas allegedly helped his name be re-added to the movie, although Trumbo’s family later claimed Douglas overstated his role in this.

This incident was shown in the 2015 biopic Trumbo, which starred Bryan Cranston as the screenwriter who was shunned due to his pro-Communist political beliefs.

The 48-year-old Oscar-winning Welsh actress, then went on to present the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay, which went to Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Some viewers quickly took to Twitter to criticize the segment, for because the acting legend had great difficulty speaking while on air.

Kirk Douglas won a Best Actor (Drama) Golden Globe for the 1956 film Lust for Life, for which he also received his third and final Academy Award nomination.
