Catherina Zeta-Jones voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility recently, because of her ongoing battle with bipolar disorder, People reports.
“Catherine has proactively checked into a health care facility,” Zeta-Jones' rep told People. “Previously Catherine has said that she is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner.”
The 43-year-old actress is not seeking medical attention for any specific incident or new problem, sources explained to the magazine. Zeta-Jones is apparently just taking proactive steps to monitor her medication and to continue managing her diagnosis of bipolar II. "There was no big problem," said the friend. "This was just a good time to do it. She is in between projects. This has always been part of the plan. She would manage her health. She is vigilant about it."
This is not the first time that Zeta-Jones has taken it upon herself to enter a mental health facility. Just two years ago she completed a stint at a facility in Connecticut to undergo treatment for the disorder. At the time, she told People, "This is a disorder that affects millions of people and I am one of them. If my revelation of having bipolar II has encouraged one person to seek help, then it is worth it. There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help."
Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas attended the Film Society of Lincoln Center's 40th Annual Chaplin Award Gala together a week ago. However, the Chicago actress was noticeably absent when Douglas attended the White House Correspondents' Dinner alone on Saturday.
Reds 2, coming out in July, stars Zeta-Jones alongside Bruce Willis and Anthony Hopkins.
