Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, a prequel spin-off of the popular Netflix series Bridgerton, tells the story of Queen Charlotte and King George III, a plotline that was hinted at in Season 2 of the parent show. The prequel explores the origin of a young Charlotte (India Amarteifio) during her arranged marriage to George (Corey Mylchreest).
As a Bridgerton series, the central love story, including the sex scenes, is the most important. Amarteifio and Mylchreest said that creating the chemistry between the two characters went smoothly as the royals’ relationship gradually transformed as the show progressed. At first, they only had sex on even days for the sole purpose of creating an heir. But as they grow closer, their relationship becomes more intimate.
Mylchreest thanked intimacy coordinators Lucy Fennell and Lizzie Talbot for their work, noting that Bridgerton had previously received criticism for making gratuitous sex scenes.
He said in a Netflix video that it “very nerve-racking” at first, but he built “a sense of trust” with India that had its “own arc” along with the one their characters were experiencing. Amarteifio shared Mylchreest’s feelings, crediting the team and creator Shonda Rhimes for focusing on the storyline and not just including sex scenes “for the sake of it.”
But many fans watch the show for its sex scenes. The most outrageous sequence occurs in episode three of the show and comes from the character Lady Agatha Danbury (Arsema Thomas), who is confined to a loveless marriage to the much older Lord Danbury (Cyril Nri). During one of their sex scenes, Agatha appears uninterested and uncomfortable. There’s then a loud sound and Agatha turns around to find that Lord Danbury has fallen over dead.
Queen Charlotte contains many other sex scenes, including a bathroom sequence and some LGBTQ scenes between two male servants.
