Casey Anthony wrapped up another legal battle on Tuesday when she reached a settlement with the search and rescue organization Texas EquuSearch, which spent $100,000 looking for her missing daughter, Caylee Anthony, who was later found dead.
Anthony, while acquitted of the 2008 murder of her 2-year-old daughter, was found guilty of lying to investigators about the circumstances of Caylee’s disappearance. At the time, the mother had claimed the child had been kidnapped, inspiring a nationwide manhunt for the girl and her captor. During opening statements in the 2011 court case, Anthony’s lawyer told the jury that his client knew that her daughter was not kidnapped, and that Caylee had drowned the backyard pool.
Instead of taking their case to trial, Texas EquuSearch has opted to settle for being named as a $75,000 creditor in Anthony’s bankruptcy case, reported the Orlando Sentinel. Anthony, who didn’t object to the terms of the settlement, filed for bankruptcy in January, stating that she was roughly $800,000 in debt and had just $1,000 to her name.
Anthony’s legal battles are still not over, after more than two years have past since she was acquitted of murder in the Florida court. Two individuals – the meter reader who discovered Caylee’s body in the woods behind Anthony’s house and a woman whose name is similar to the one Anthony gave to the fictional kidnapper – have filed defamation lawsuits.
