Casey Affleck may have just let slip that his brother Ben Affleck will not be reprising the role of Batman.
The rumors have been swirling about Ben’s possible return as the Caped Crusader, especially that the star was trying to get out of the upcoming solo movie gig, The Batman. Other reports say that Warner Bros. was trying to force Affleck out. Regardless, Casey Affleck just brought it up again to reporters without even realizing.
“I thought he was an okay Batman,” Affleck initially joked to Complex. “No, he was great, he was great. He’s a hero, so he had something to channel and work with there. But he’s not going to do [The Batman] I don’t think.” Realizing he’d just dropped some news, Affleck quickly backtracked on the claim. “Is that breaking news? I was just kind of making that up, I don’t know.”
It’s unclear if there is any truth to Casey’s statement. He starts out joking, then makes the claim, before playing dumb. Another factor is that the interview took place on Ben’s birthday, so it could have been an elaborate scheme to get his brother in hot water.
Ben Affleck’s reps, however, have now responded to Casey’s words. “He’ll continue to be they saidBatman as long as the studio will have him,” . Casey’s reps have also spoken out in defense – “He was having fun with the folks at the Red Sox game – where he threw out the first pitch in support of the Jimmy Fund – and not speaking from a place of firsthand knowledge.”
