Carrie Fisher, the iconic actress who portrayed Princess Leia in the Star Wars series, died Tuesday following a massive heart attack last week. She was 60.
Family spokesman Simon Halls released a statement on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd:
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” reads the statement.
“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” says Lourd, 24. “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Fisher went into cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles, where she was going for her book tour. Fisher received CPR on the plane, and was treated by paramedics immediately after landing in Los Angeles.
Fisher’s mother shared an update about her daughter’s health on Twitter yesterday. “Carrie is in stable condition. If there is a change,we will share it. For all her fans & friends. I thank you for your prayers & good wishes,” the tweet said.
