Carrie Fisher, who died at age 60 on Dec. 27, 2016, was found to have had cocaine, methadone, heroin, and ecstasy in her system days before she died.
Four days prior to her death, Fisher became ill and unresponsive on a flight from London to Los Angeles, which is when the drugs were in her system. She was in a coma until her death. Her mother, Debbie Reynolds, died the very next day.
Despite the drugs, investigators could not determine whether or not the substances contributed to her death. “Based on the available toxicological information, we cannot establish the significance of the multiple substances that were detected in Ms. Fisher’s blood and tissue, with regard to the cause of death,” the report states. The coroner’s officials concluded that Fisher died from sleep apnea plus “other undetermined factors.”
“Ms. Fisher suffered what appeared to be a cardiac arrest on the airplane accompanied by vomiting and with a history of sleep apnea,” the autopsy continues. “Based on the available toxicological information, we cannot establish the significance of the multiple substances that were detected in Ms. Fisher’s blood and tissue, with regard to the cause of death.”
In addition to the illegal drugs, Fisher also had prescriptions for Prozac, Abilify, and Lamictal. The star taking oxycodone in addition without a prescription.
The Star Wars actress has long been outspoken about her mental health and drug addiction struggles. In her semi-autobiographical first novel Postcards from the Edge, she drew her issues with bipolar disorder and drugs.
