Passengers feared for their lives on Carnival Sunshine’s cruise ship last Friday evening as they faced 80 mph winds in the rough seas with 17-foot swells, all in the middle of a developing storm.
“On Carnival Sunshine, everything the sunlight touches has been drenched with an extra dose of fun,” the cruise ship’s website says.
But instead of an extra dose of fun, Carnival Sunshine was drenched with the water from a powerful storm.
The ship is capable of fitting over 3,000 guests and 1,040 crew members. Passengers were on a five-day round-trip to the Bahamas when the violent storm blew in, which lasted for 12 hours.
Guests said they were scared for their lives.
Making their situation even more terrifying, many passengers said that the captain or crew did not update them for over 12 hours.
Daniel Taylor was also a passenger on the ship and told Fox Weather that they replaced the cruise information on their TV’s with “address announcement standby” on the screen, which wasn’t changed until the following day.
“Around this time was also when our internet stopped working. This left us blind to knowing anything about where we were, where we were going, how fast we were traveling, and wind speeds for over five hours,” Taylor added.

Although the storm was traumatizing for many, no severe injuries were reported.
“Carnival Sunshine’s return to Charleston was impacted by the weather and rough seas on Saturday. Guests on board the ship were safe. Our medical staff helped a small number of guests and crew members who needed minor assistance,” a Carnival said a statement.
Carnival Sunshine is reportedly back on the water, making its next voyage.
