A 30-year-old woman, who was shoved onto the subway tracks in New York, City, remains hospitalized in critical condition on Saturday.

According to the NYPD, she is fighting for her life.

The assault occurred at the 53rd Street/Fifth Avenue station in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday. She was standing on the platform when she was pushed, which caused her head to strike the moving train. The victim later fell onto the tracks. But was later helped back onto the platform and emergency services responded to the scene.

The woman was later transported to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition.

She was going to work when the attack took place.

On Friday, the NYPD arrested a homeless man, Sabir Jones, in connection to the attack. Jones was known to the NYPD due to his long criminal record.

Jones had been homeless for about four years. He had been arrested in December 2022 for resisting arrest after riding subway cars in Brooklyn.

Despite the attack, New York City has seen a decrease in crime on the New York City subway, including incidents where people were pushed onto the tracks. Fifteen people have been pushed onto the tracks in 2023, compared to 22 people this time last year in 2022.
