Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton shared the stage at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner hosted by archbishop of New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
The Al Smith Dinner brought the presidential candidates together once again after a very contentious debate the previous night. Dolan worked as the peacekeeper between the two, keeping the unity between the two.
On Friday, the Today Show interviewed Dolan, who described what happened when he was with Trump and Clinton alone before the dinner had started.
“The Al Smith Dinner, by its nature, literally tries to… bring these two people together,” Doland said. “I try my best and there were some very touching moments. When we were going in I said if we could pray together as we were being announced and after the little prayer Trump turned to Secretary Clinton and said, ‘you know, you are one tough and talented woman.’… And she said to him ‘Donald, whatever happens, we need to work together afterwards.'”
