After the deadly fire on January 9 that killed 17 people and destroyed many homes in the Bronx, Cardi B announced that she’ll be helping to cover the burial costs of the victims.

Cardi, a Bronx native, will be partnering with New York City mayor Eric Adam’s Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to help the affected families by paying for the victim’s funeral costs. It was also revealed that she’ll be covering repatriation costs for victims that are going to be buried in Gambia.

The “Bodak Yellow” rapper released a statement in support of the victims’ families. “When I heard about the fire and all of the victims, I knew I needed to do something to help,” she said. “I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that the families of the victims are experiencing, but I hope that not having to worry about the costs associated with burying their loved ones will help as they move forward and heal.”

Adams thanked Cardi for her donation, calling her “a real superstar on and off the mic.”

Along with celebrity support from Bronx natives such as Cardi and Fat Joe, Individual donations have flooded in for the victims. The Bronx Fire Relief Fund has so far raised more than $2.5 million, and you can learn how to donate here.
