Cardi B made history at Sunday’s Grammy Awards when she became the first solo female artist to win for Best Rap Album for her album, Invasion of Privacy. Bursting into tears when her name was called, the 26-year-old rapper took to the stage with her husband Offset, who beamed by her side as she struggled to get through an acceptance speech.
“Babe, I can’t breathe,” she began quietly, turning to her rapper husband for support. She muttered a couple words then apologized to the audience saying, “the nerves are so bad. Maybe I need to start smoking weed.”

The rest of Cardi B’s acceptance speech followed her signature flow-of-consciousness style, switching from thanking her husband and producers to explaining how she felt pressure to get this album done before her pregnancy started showing. She had to stop a couple more times during her speech to collect herself, and the singer was visibly moved by the show of support from the Recording Academy, who have previously come under fire for not recognizing talent in the rap and hip-hop categories.
