Cardi B and two associates pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges relating to a fight that broke out at a strip club in Queens, New York. The rapper, whose full name is Belcalis Almánzar, and both her friends accepted a plea deal of assault in the third degree and reckless endangerment to avoid jail time.
In a statement, Cardi B said, “Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions. As a mother, it’s a practice that I am trying to instill in my children, but the example starts with me.”
The incident occurred at Angel’s Strip Club, and the rapper reportedly had two of the bartenders attacked because she thought one of them had an affair with her spouse: Offset from the Migos.
She had initially denied any involvement in the fight, though one representative for the police claimed that she was seen “throwing chairs, bottles and hookahs” during the altercation late at night in October of 2018.
Her punishment will be 15 days of community service, and a three-year protective order from the other women in the fight.
While in New York, Cardi B also returned to her old elementary school in The Bronx to donate $100,000 for their arts department and to develop an after school program.
She reflected on her time at IS 232 saying, “It turned me from an 11 year old girl into a little adult. Kids in the Bronx have to grow up quickly [due] to our circumstances and our environment.”
Cardi is preparing for the release of her second major full-length album after the 2018 smash hit Invasion of Privacy. She last teased the album in October 2021, when she posted on her Instagram story, “The money people liking the album sounds,” in a likely reference to her label Atlantic Records.
She has also featured on recent tracks by Summer Walker and Lizzo.
