Rapper Cardi B interviewed the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden urging him to focus on issues of importance to the black community.
The interview for the cover of Elle magazine got off to a warm start, with Biden congratulating Cardi on her recent success, thanking her for helping him spread awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic, insisting that she can call him Joe and introducing her to his daughter Ashley Biden, whom Biden said was a fan of her work. The two even joked that Biden’s daughter had given him the nickname “Joey B.”
Cardi opened the interview by agreeing with Biden that President Donald Trump needed to leave office. The rapper voiced support for free college tuition, expanded Medicare and laws that are fair to African Americans. As a married mother of a two-year-old daughter, Cardi also stressed the importance of child care in the United States.
Biden promised that if he’s elected president he would always be honest with the people and own up to his mistakes.
This is not the first time Cardi has interviewed a presidential candidate, as she interviewed Bernie Sanders during his run for president in 2019.
