Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B has filed for divorce from her husband of six years, Migos member Offset. The split, confirmed on Wednesday, comes just hours before Cardi B announced she is expecting her third child.
The 31-year-old “Bodak Yellow” artist is seeking primary custody of the couple’s two children: daughter Kulture Kiari, 6, and son Wave Set, 2. Details of the divorce filing were not immediately available to the public.
Cardi B’s representative stated that the split wasn’t because of cheating rumors but the result of problems that have been building up for a while. Fans have been wondering about their relationship for months.
In a candid Instagram Live session earlier this year, Cardi B hinted at her single status, expressing a desire for a fresh start. Despite this, the couple continued to make public appearances together, including a family trip to Disneyland Paris in July.
The pair’s relationship has been marked by periods of separation and reconciliation since their 2017 marriage. In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Cardi B described Offset as her “best friend” and spoke about the complexity of their bond beyond romantic love.
Reflecting on their early relationship, Cardi B praised Offset for his unwavering support of her career aspirations. “He never made me feel like I was little to him,” she told the magazine, crediting his encouragement as a driving force behind her success.
However, the rapper also acknowledged the challenges they faced, citing their different backgrounds and her demanding career as sources of strain. “My career comes first, then my kids come second,” Cardi B admitted, recognizing that her priorities sometimes overshadowed her relationship.
Despite the impending divorce, Cardi B seems to be embracing new beginnings. Announcing her pregnancy on Instagram, she wrote, “With every ending comes a new beginning!” The post celebrated the upcoming addition to her family while acknowledging the end of this chapter with Offset.
