Candace Owens Suspended From GoFundMe For Spreading ‘Hate’ & ‘Falsehoods’

On Sunday, GoFundMe suspended popular conservative voice Candace Owens from its fundraising platform for videos that criticized Black Lives Matter protests and for her support for a cafe in Alabama that called George Floyd a “thug.” Owens was using GoFundMe to raise money for the cafe and its owner Michael Dykes.

The statement made by GoFundMe over the suspension read, “GoFundMe has suspended the account associated with Candace Owens and the GoFundMe campaign has been removed because of a repeated pattern of inflammatory statements that spread hate, discrimination, intolerance and falsehoods against the black community at a time of profound national crisis.”

Owens posted the email she received from GoFundMe on Twitter and gave a statement of her own. She said, “After raising $205,000 in a few hours @gofundme decided to halt my campaign for the Parkside Cafe in Alabama. At their discretion, they deemed that funds raised for a conservative business constitutes ‘intolerance’

They WILL however give the funds raised thus far to the cafe…”

The controversy started when a text from Dykes was posted on Twitter. The text read, “We should go up one or two dollars on everything until June 10th. Call it a protest tax because all the idiots that went to the protests are responsible for us not being able to open normal hours. Any employees that went or are going should resign. Mr. Floyd was a thug, didn’t deserve to die but honoring a thug is irresponsible.”

The text caused multiple employees to quit and soon went viral on social media. The cafe apologized for Dykes’ comments and GoFundMe promised to give the money that was raised in the duration of the fundraiser to the cafe or provide a refund to those who wanted it.

Owens later added on Twitter, “While I am glad they will give the funds raised this far to the cafe to the owner, I am angry that such a blatant form of discrimination is acceptable by @gofundme. There was NOTHING intolerant or violent about raising funds to help a conservative business owner.”

Owens, who is black herself, has made multiple videos that were posted on Facebook where she states, “Confession: I DO NOT support George Floyd and I refuse to see him as a martyr. But I hope his family receives justice.”  In the first video she made, Owens highlighted Floyd’s criminal record and explained that she thought his death should not be celebrated. After going viral, Owens proceeded to make another video, which President Donald Trump soon promoted, discussing the same topic with other popular conservative Glenn Beck.
