Candace Cameron Bure’s cleanse announcement earlier in the week found the Full House alum in some hot water with her fans, who felt like she was endorsing an unhealthy fad diet.

Candace Camerson Bure's Cleanse Controversy

“After a very indulgent week in Napa, I'm excited to kick off my 5 day cleanse with @eatpaleta today!!,” Bure posted on her Facebook page with a picture of her liquid meal. “Shakes for breakfast & lunch, sensible snacks & a light veggie dinner.”

Mandy of Bure’s Facebook followers expressed concern for her health for taking on the diet trend. “Your body is equipped to cleanse itself via the liver, kidneys and intestines. Most of these 'cleanses' actually disrupt the body & is very unhealthy,” wrote one worried poster. “I am 1 semester away from earning a degree as a diet technician (like a dietitian) & I am speaking out of concern. If you just eat healthy foods, your body will repair itself.”

Other people were more irritated by Bure’s promotion of cleanses than concerned. “Don't be obsessive about food and weight, it's not attractive,” wrote one such person. “You think there was a cleanse back in Jesus' day? Eat normal not a lot processed stuff. Those cleanses are man made & not natural,” another wrote.

In response to the backlash, Bure decided to defend her decision to go on a cleanse following her Italian vacation. She explained that she’s doing it to get her “body back on track” following her healthy, exercise-filled stint on Dancing with the Stars and her recent indulgences.

“I'm excited to start my 5 day cleanse not to lose weight but to get my body back on track, ridding all the toxins and unhealthy stuff I've put in it the last few months,” Bure wrote. “Since being off Dancing With The Stars, my body has struggled to find its balance after having danced up to 8 hours a day and eating so clean.”

Bure continued, “After going back to my normal eating habits as well as extended over indulgent summertime vacation eating and normal exercise routine, my body has endured some confusion causing some minor health issues. That is private, so I will not going into detail, but this cleanse is just a step to getting it back on track because I know that food is a key source to healthy living.”
