Cameron James Pettit Charged By Prosecutors In Connection With Mac Miller’s Death

Federal prosecutors on Wednesday charged a man named Cameron James Pettit in connection with the death of rapper and producer Mac Miller, who died last year.

The arrest of Pettit, 28, comes just shy of the one-year anniversary of Miller’s death on Sept. 7, 2018. The rapper, who famously dated Ariana Grandedied of an alleged drug overdose at age 26. Miller, who was open about his struggle with addiction, was found unresponsive in his home.

A 42-page criminal complaint filed in California says Pettit has been charged with allegedly supplying Miller with a wide variety of drugs, including fake oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl. Pettit was also accused of providing the late rapper with Xanax and cocaine.

“We are aggressively targeting drug dealers responsible for trafficking illicit fentanyl, which has become the most deadly facet of the opioid epidemic,” U.S. Attorney Nick Hanna said in a public statement. “We are committed to slowing the number of overdose deaths and prosecuting those responsible for spreading this most dangerous opioid.”

Hanna continued: “Fentanyl disguised as a genuine pharmaceutical is a killer, which is being proven every day in America. Drugs laced with cheap and potent fentanyl are increasingly common, and we owe it to the victims and their families to aggressively target the drug dealers that cause these overdose deaths.”

Should Pettit be convicted, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison.
