Cameron Bay, HIV Positive Porn Actress, Claims Condoms Not Used On Porn Sets

Cameron Bay tested positive for HIV three months after entering the adult film industry and shooting ten sex scenes – all of which were condom-free.

Bay had been told by a more veteran porn actress that requesting that a condom be used could get her kicked off a job. “Don't even bring it up because they have somebody waiting to replace you,” the woman had advised, Bay told The Huffington Post.

"I learned that there's always someone younger and sexier, willing to do something you're not. It's a dog-eat-dog world," Bay said. "I think we need more choices because of that. Condoms should be a choice."

During her short stint in the industry, Bay shot scenes for Hustler, Zero Tolerance, 21st Sextury and Kink.com. On her last shoot with Kink.com, condoms were optional, but Bay left the decision up to her male partner since she knew he had a clean STD test. A couple of weeks later after learning that a performer she’d worked with had hepatitis C, Bay went to go get tested and discovered the shocking news that instead of hep C, she had HIV.

Following Bay’s positive test, a moratorium was placed on Los Angeles porn films. After finding that all of the performers who had worked with Bay had tested clean, the moratorium was lifted. But a week later it was determined that Bay’s boyfriend Rod Daily tested positive. Daily, a gay porn actor, couldn’t pinpoint when he’d contracted the virus either. A third performer tested HIV-positive two days later, which led to another moratorium.

In November 2012, citizens of Los Angeles voted to put in place a mandate that required porn actors to use condoms while filming. However, according to insiders, including Bay, the mandate is not enforced in the industry. Bay believes that, in addition to enforcing the wearing of condoms, STD testing should be more frequent. Currently, porn actors need to get tested every 30 days, but she believes they should be tested on set before every shoot.

"Education is power. I've done more reading in the past couple weeks than I have since high school," she told HuffPost. “At the end of the day, it's about your safety. And a piece of paper that says you're clear to shoot doesn't mean anything."
