Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss Drop Facebook Lawsuit

In a surprising turn of events, Harvard grads and twin brothers, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, have dropped their lawsuit against Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg. The Winklevoss twins have officially accepted the $65 million settlement ($20 million in cash, $45 milion in stock) that was offered back in 2008 and have also decided to not go to the Supreme Court after the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against them.

The Facebook lawsuit was started when the Winklevoss twins accused Zuckerberg of stealing their idea for a university-wide social networking site and turned into what is now known as Facebook. This legal battle was made famous by the Oscar-winning film The Social Network, directed by David Fincher. The twins were played by rising star Armie Hammer and Zuckerbeg was portrayed by the Oscar-nominated Jesse Eisenberg.

  • In the movie, I couldn't help but feel bad for the Winklevoss twins. The movie made it seem like the twins were wronged, and Zuckerberg was the bad guy who wronged them. In real life though, I think it's fair for them to drop the case after already getting so much money. It wasn't really their idea in the first place. They wanted a dating site.
