Khloe Kardashian recently celebrated her 39th birthday with a caring message from someone special in her life: Caitlyn Jenner.
Caitlyn posted an old picture on Instagram of when Khloe married former Lakers player, Lamar Odom, back in 2009.
She wrote: “Happy birthday @khloekardashian Being your stepfather was, and is, one of the best things that I was ever blessed with by your mother. I promised your father that I would do my best to always be there for you kids and I know I haven’t been perfect but I will always love you and you are forever my heart.” She ended it off by saying, “I hope your day is filled with love, your kids and happiness.
Kris Jenner, Khloe’s mom, married Caitlyn (nee Bruce) in April 1991 after she divorced Robert Kardashian that same year. Robert later died from throat cancer 12 years later in 2003. Then, in 2013, the reality star and the Olympian split before divorcing for good in 2015.
In addition to the post, she posted a story of Khloe and her younger stepsister, Kendall Jenner, when they were younger with the same message. Khloe responded to Jenner’s story by replying “I love you!!!!!!! 💕”.
Khloe and Caitlyn’s relationship hasn’t been the best. Caitlyn implied that their communication shifted when Jenner was going through her gender reassignment surgery.
On a 2019 episode of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, she spoke about her stepdaughter, “Khloe, for some reason, was pissed off about something through this whole process. Honestly, it’s been five, six years and I really haven’t talked to her since… I don’t know what it is and that’s all I can say. And Khloe and I were really close. I raised Khloe since she was five years old. I don’t know what her issues are. I really don’t know.”
Khloe responded saying she didn’t have a problem with Caitlyn’s sex change but more so of how Caitlyn spoke about her mom, Kris Jenner in her 2015 conversation with Vanity Fair and in her autobiography, The Secrets of My Life. “I am all for Caitlyn screaming from rooftops about her transition,” she noted on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians in 2015. “I think it’s beautiful and I think Caitlyn should take pride in everything she’s doing and the strength that it takes to do what she’s doing on such a public platform. With that being said, Caitlyn does not need to tear anybody else down to build herself up.”
Now, it seems like they are in a great place. When Khloe had son, Tatum, with former fiancé, Tristan Thompson last summer, Caitlyn tweeted a sweet message, “Congratulations major @khloekardashian. I love you so much! You are such a strong woman. And what an amazing mother!”
