Caitlyn Jenner Slams California Officials For Handling Of The L.A. Wildfire Crisis
Amid the Los Angeles wildfire crisis, which has claimed 40,000 acres of land and 25 lives so far, former Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner has accused the California Forestry Service of poor land management. Millions of Southern Californians were on edge as winds began picking up during Wednesday’s latest round of dangerous fire weather.
The Olympian commented that the forestry service insisted homeowners clear their properties of undergrowth but leave state lands to grow over.
Jenner shared a photo on her X account showing how her property backs onto overgrown public lands, branding it a “major liability.”
“My 13-acre property in Malibu backs up to CA state land,” she wrote. “Notice the differences between my groundskeeping and the states? The states do not manage underbrush or forests on their lands, which provides a plethora of fuel for wildfires. No underbrush on my land.”
Jenner claimed that having state lands on her property boundary was a dangerous liability, as the forestry service failed in its duties.
California State Parks Department Officials said in a statement that they could not confirm whether the land in Jenner’s pictures belongs to the state Parks.
CALFire’s website indicates that homeowners must keep 100 feet of defensible space by removing potentially flammable growth. The first 30 feet must also be clear of dead or dry vegetation, with a space created between trees.
While Jenner’s followers agreed with her statements, some mocked them, saying homeowners living in at-risk areas should be responsible for fireproofing.
“It’s a basic service – forest management – all of the taxes paid by ‘we the people’ already pay for and must demand from our leaders,” Jenner wrote.
In the past year, Jenner, who is transexual, has repeatedly attacked trans athletes competing in women’s sports.
