Caitlyn Jenner is putting her gubernatorial campaign on the back burner in order to jump back into reality TV. California’s special election to recall the current Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is just around the corner, two months away to be exact, and Jenner has landed in Sydney, Australia to participate in the new season of Celebrity Big Brother.
Though the TV show has yet to confirm the rumors, the local Adelaide tabloid The Advertiser reported that the former Olympian would be quarantined in the city for two weeks before the start of filming. Jenner will reportedly make around $372,500 for her appearance on the popular reality show.
However, if the tabloid is correct, filming may interfere with the candidate’s run for governor; she might not be back in time for a final campaign push before the election. In addition to the two weeks of quarantine, filming for Big Brother usually takes around two months to complete, well past the September 14 election date.
Still, it may not change anything. Jenner’s chances of election are low with a May poll from the Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies ranking her at fourth among other Republican candidates with 6% of support. The reality star, who has no political experience, stands behind the former mayor of San Diego Kevin Faulconer, 2018 gubernatorial candidate John Cox and former Rep. Doug Ose. Moreover, the same poll revealed that only 36% of those surveyed supported recalling current governor Gavin Newsom – 50% is required for the governor to lose his office.
Jenner, who is running on a Republican platform that includes addressing homelessness and making California more pro-business, does not trust the polls though. Last week she told Politico, “Honestly, I’m not concerned about the polling. I guarantee you that I am in the lead.”
