It was revealed on Saturday at the Toronto Film Festival that Caitlyn Jenner will appear in season three of the popular Amazon Video show Transparent.
Showrunner Jill Soloway told Variety panel that Jenner would appear in a dream sequence, closing the door to speculation that Jenner might become a recurring character. She will share the dream with activist playwright and poet Ntozake Shange, best know for her 1975 play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf.
In the show, the dream belongs to Gaby Hoffmann‘s character Ali, who is one of Maura Pfeffermann’s (played by Jeffrey Tambor) daughters. “Ali has a kind of wild, nitrous-inspired goddess-worshiping dream sequence,” says Soloway. “And you can’t talk about the goddess without Ntozake Shange and Caitlyn Jenner who are both in the dream.”
“She was great, she was a total natural,” Hoffmann said of Jenner after filming. “She was great at improvising.”
Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG winner Tambor was also delighted to work with Jenner. “She floats all boats,” he praised. “Everybody is better for this in the community because of her authentic decision and her courageous decision.”
Transparent season 3 will be available Sept. 23 on Amazon Prime. See the trailer below.
