Caitlyn Jenner Comments On GOP Baseball Shooting: “Liberals Can’t Even Shoot Straight”; Gets Huge Backlash

Reality star and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner has come under fire for comments she made regarding the shooting of several Republican congressmen during a baseball practice last week.

Speaking to a crowd at the College Republican National Committee’s convention on Friday, Jenner made light of the shooting, which left several GOP congressmen seriously injured, and poked fun at liberals, attempting to make the shooting a partisan issue.

“Nobody deserves what happened out there,” Jenner began. “There’s no justification for it. Hey, there are crazy in the world, we know that. It happened then, it will happen again, unfortunately. There are crazy people and we have to minimize that kind of stuff.”

Jenner continued, “But, as for the people that were injured, it’s an absolute shame. You just want them to recover. Fortunately the guy was a really bad shot. And, yeah, liberals can’t even shoot straight.”

The remark solicited hearty laughs and heavy applause from the Republican audience. Online, the remark has garnered a different kind of response.

“OMG. This is disgusting. Absolutely shameful,” actress Debra Messing said in a tweet.

Shannon Watts, an activist working to end gun violence, tweeted out similar sentiments. “This comment is not ok, @CaitlynJenner. Key trait American shooters share isnt (sic) political party, but history of domestic violence.”

Jenner, a long-time Republican, has yet to comment on the backlash she has received for her comments.

The shooting Jenner was referring to occurred on June 14 in Alexandria, Virginia. While practicing for the annual charity Congressional baseball game, a gunman opened fire on the Republican team, seriously injuring several, including Majority Whip Steve Scalise and three others. The shooter, who died after receiving returning fire from Capitol police, was later revealed to have once supported Bernie Sanders. It is believed that his political views leaned far to the left.

Jenner has publicly noted that she voted for Trump during the 2016 presidential election but has lampooned him for removing Federal protections for LGBTQ people. While she has acknowledged that Democrats are “better” on LGBTQ rights, she claims that she votes Republican for because of other conservative issues.
