The 27th Annual GLAAD awards winners were announced on Saturday and among the winners were Ruby Rose, Demi Lovato, and Caitlyn Jenner.
The awards recognize and honor media for their fair and accurate representations of the LGBT community and lives, according to GLAAD.
The ceremony presented Lovato with the Vanguard Award, and Orange is the New Black star Ruby Rose received the Stephen F. Kolzak award which is given to an LGBT media professional who has made a difference in promoting equality and acceptance.
Lovato was also there to perform her new single, “Stone Cold” and received the award from close friend and touring partner, Nick Jonas.
“I always knew that if I made it as a singer that I would need to use my voice for so much more than just singing,” Lovato said inside the Beverly Hilton ballroom. “This award means so much to me, more than any music award because this is the real stuff.”
Jenner also took the stage to accept her award for Best Documentary Series, which was split between I Am Cait and the trans documentary, I Am Jazz.
“I’m honored to share this award with Jazz,” Jenner said. “We have so many issues with trans youth, suicide rates and murder rates, and with your example with your show, it gives these young people hope that they can survive those very difficult times as they grow up trying to figure out who they are.”
Jenner also talked about how her transition has improved her life.
“Getting to know the people at GLAAD has been a tremendous experience for me. They have helped me so much, working my way through the land mines of the trans world in the last year. [GLAAD director of programs for trans media] Nick Adams, you’re the best. We don’t make it right all of the time, but we try our best to get it right when it comes to these issues.”
Logo will air Saturday’s ceremony Monday, April 4 at 10 p.m. EST.
