Michelle Trachtenberg, the star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at 39. Trachtenberg was found by her mother around 8:00 a.m. on Feb. 26 at a 51-story luxury apartment complex in Manhattan’s Central Park South neighborhood, the NYPD reported in a statement.

“On Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at approximately 0801 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an aided individual at 1 Columbus Place, within the confines of the Midtown North Precinct,” they said in the statement. “Upon arrival, officers observed a 39-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased.”

“Criminality is not suspected,” they went on to say. “The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.”

Trachtenberg reportedly had a recent medical issue, recently underwent a liver transplant and died of natural causes, according to the NYPD.

Over one year before her death, her fans shared concern for her well-being after she shared an image on Instagram featuring her and Spy Kids star Alexa PenaVega.

Some fans in the comment section pointed out the actress’ paler-than-usual skin and “jaundiced” eyes. The messages over her “sick” appearance made her lash out.

“Explain to me how I look sick,” she stated. “Did you lose a calendar and not realize I’m not 14? I’m 38. How sad for you to leave such a comment.”

Even though the fan who said she looked ill apologized, Trachtenberg shared another selfie in response to all the criticism. The caption to this post stated, “I’ve received several comments recently about my appearance. I have never had plastic surgery. I am happy and healthy. Check yourself, haters.”
