Damar Hamlin posted a selfie on Twitter at the Super Bowl before kickoff on Sunday.
The Bills safety is currently recovering after going into cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2.
Hamlin got up from what appeared to be a routine tackle but then went limp and fell backward. Medical experts say the football player may have experienced commotio cordis, a rare incident where a blunt force to the chest can cause a healthy heart to stop beating.
He wrote “Ain’t it a blessing,” in his Twitter post.
Before the game, the NFL honored the Bills and Bengals training and medical staff as well as the staff at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Hamlin joined them and received hugs from many of the first responders.
Hamlin also reunited with one of his close childhood friends, Eagles running back Miles Sanders.
Last week, reports came out that Dr. Thom Mayer, the medical director of the National Football League Players Association, said he would be able to play football again.
However, NFL medical director Allen Sills stated that the decision wouldn’t be made anytime soon and that the Bills were working with Hamlin so that he can make the most-informed judgment.
Although Hamlin is desperate to play again, he is making a difference off the field. His community toy drive, the Chasing M’s Foundation, has since raised more than $9 million.
The foundation also supports back-to-school drives, kid camps and more.
