Bryce Dallas Howard Confirms Pay Disparity From Chris Pratt On ‘Jurassic World’ Movies

Amid reports that she was paid $2 million less than her male co-star Chris Pratt to appear in Jurassic World, Bryce Dallas Howard confirmed the reports and suggested the disparity was even larger than previously rumored. Howard said she was stuck in an unsatisfactory pay structure for all of the movies due to her three-film commitment.

While the 2018 report claimed she took home $8 million to Pratt’s $10 million, Howard countered the numbers. “The reports were so interesting because I was paid so much less than the reports even said, so much less,” she told Insider.

In 2014, when she first negotiated for the part, “It was 2014, and it was a different world, I was at a great disadvantage. And, unfortunately, you have to sign up for three movies, and your deals are set.”

Howard also mentioned that Pratt fought on her behalf to get her pay increased for her appearances in other offshoot projects such as video games and merchandise, but the film rights can’t be shifted and had “been already negotiated.”

“He literally told me: ‘You guys don’t even have to do anything. I’m gonna do all the negotiating. We’re gonna be paid the same, and you don’t have to think about this, Bryce.’ Even I have to admit, that’s a pretty great show of solidarity.”

She added that she was paid “more for those kinds of things than I ever was for the movie.”

Gender pay disparity is still a massive issue on all levels in Hollywood. Even massively bankable celebrities have found themselves with significantly lower rates than men in similar roles.

Actresses such as Ellen Pompeo and Michelle Williams have discussed their own experiences with uneven pay openly.

Williams put up with an egregious case when she ironically earned $1,000 to act in All The Money In The World and found out after filming that Mark Wahlberg earned $1.5 million for the same film.
