Bruno Mars has settled a lawsuit over his smash hit “Uptown Funk” with the 80’s funk band Collage.
According to legal documents obtained from TMZ, Mars settled the court case alleging that he, Sony Music and producer Mark Ronson stole the rhythm, harmony and melody from Collage’s 1983 song “Young Girls.” Reports say that both sides have agreed to permanently drop the matter, but it isn’t clear if they reached an understanding on money due to the band.
This is only one of several lawsuits over “Uptown Funk.” The female rap group The Sequence claimed their song “Funk You UP” was “significantly and substantially similar” to the hit. Roger Troutman and Zapp have alleged that their song “More Bounce To The Ounce” was used to help make “Uptown Funk.”
The lawsuits haven’t hindered Mars from performing. The singer extended his 24K Magic tour with Cardi B and is set to continue until October 27.
