Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Sting, Ziggy Marley and Damien Marley came together in a tribute that featured Mars’ “Locked Out Of Heaven,” The Police’s “Walking On The Moon” and the late Marley’s “Could You Be Loved.”
Mars and Sting’s mashup of “Locked Out of Heaven” and “Walking on the Moon” was the second of the night, coming after the Maroon 5 and Alicia Keys’ mashup of “Daylight” and “Girl on Fire.” It was a memorable performance, even if it had slightly odd song choices for a Bob Marley tribute, being that neither was one of his songs.
When Rihanna, Ziggy and Damien took to the stage they launched into Marley’s anthem, “Could You Be Loved,” which judging by the dancing celebs in the audience, was a favorite of the evening. This celebration of the late reggae musician’s life came at an appropriate time. Family, friends and lifelong fans of his recently made headlines honoring the life of his music on what would have been his 68th birthday near his old home in Kingston, Jamaica last week.
