Bruce Springsteen Slams Donald Trump In New Song, “That’s What Makes Us Great”

Bruce Springsteen has never been one to shy away from a political message. He once publicly denounced Ronald Reagan for asking to use the song, “Born in the U.S.A.,” an often misunderstood tune about a Vietnam War veteran returning to a country that never respected him. Now, The Boss, in collaboration with Joe Grushecky, has recorded a new song, “That’s What Makes Us Great,” denouncing President Donald Trump‘s “con man” ways.

Springsteen sings on the new song, “Don’t tell me a lie / And sell it as a fact / I’ve been down that road before / And I ain’t going back.” He also sings, “Don’t you brag to me / That you never read a book / I never put my faith / In a con man and his crooks.”

The New Jersey singer has spoken publicly about his disdain for Trump several times in the past.

“Well, you know, the republic is under siege by a moron, basically,” Springsteen told Rolling Stone. “The whole thing is tragic.”

While performing at a Hillary Clinton rally before the 2016 election, Springsteen spoke about Trump’s facade.

“It’s such a thin costume that for me it doesn’t hold for a moment. He’s really quite an embarrassment if you’re from the U.S. It’s simply the most rigid and thinnest veil of masculinity over a mess.”

The new song is only available for purchase on Grushecky’s website – he wrote the song.

“I had this song, and Bruce and I had been talking, Grushecky told the Pittsburg Post-Gazette. “I sent it to him and he liked it. I said, ‘What do you think about singing on it?’ He gave it the Bruce treatment.”
