Bruce Jenner was involved in a four-car accident on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, Calif., Saturday afternoon that resulted in one fatality and several injuries.
In the crash, Jenner’s Cadillac Escalade rear-ended a white Lexus sedan that had hit a Prius that had stopped ahead of it. When the Escalade made contact with the Lexus, it swung the front of the vehicle into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a Hummer. The woman operating the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene, reported the USA Today.
Though initial reports that suggested Jenner had been trying to avoid paparazzi when he hit the Lexus ahead of him have been shut down, Sgt. Philip Brooks acknowledged that paps do follow the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star.
“PCH is a straight road. There’s no place to go to evade,” Brooks said. “Being a celebrity, he’s often followed by the paparazzi and he’s aware of that. He was on his way home, and they happen to know his route.”
Following the accident, Jenner complied with officers’ request for a field sobriety test, though he did not appear impaired. After passing the field sobriety test, the former Olympian voluntarily submitted a blood sample, according to Brooks.
Jenner’s rep Alan Nierob has said that he wasn’t injured in the accident.
