Actress Brooke Shields recently posted a heartfelt farewell to her daughter as she begins her first year of college.

Shields took to Instagram to send off her daughter Rowan Francis Henchy, who is an incoming first-year at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She was joined by her younger daughter, Grier, and her husband, Chris Henchy.

“My unique and extraordinary baby girl spreading her wings. I love you so. We are so proud of you,” reads the Instagram post’s caption. “This was the saddest drive away from anywhere I’ve ever had to make. But my baby is BEGINNING one of the most important adventures of her life to date…NOW!”

The first slide of her post featured a tender embrace between the mother and daughter in a dorm room. The next slide brought the whole family together, as they posed once again in the dorm. Next, Shields’ shared videos of the college campus, admiring the architecture. The post concluded as the family drove back home to New York City without their eldest daughter, showing Shields crying at the end of the video.

Shields has commented on her love for her children, and the experience of parenting often. “Once you love someone that much, you think, god, why did I do this to myself? It’s so heart-wrenching! And then you realize: It’s so heart-wrenching. That’s why I did it to myself,” she once said. Shields has also made posts with her daughters in the past, sharing moments such as prom and family vacations.

Shields, 56, began her modeling career when she was just a baby. Shields then went on to continue modeling and begin acting. She first appeared on-screen in Pretty Baby. She was also the youngest cover model for Vogue, appearing on the magazine in 1980 when she was just 14 years old.
