Caitlyn Jenner’s son, Brody Jenner, has revealed new details about his complicated relationship with his mother.
In an episode of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test on Jan. 15, Brody, 41, shared that he and Jenner did not have a close relationship while he was growing up, but it has gotten “better now.”
Brody was born in 1983 to Jenner (formerly a man known as Bruce) and his wife, Linda Thompson. Thompson and Jenner divorced in 1986, and Jenner married Kris Kardashian from 1991 to 2015, welcoming two children, Kendall and Kylie. Jenner and Kardashian divorced in 2015 and Jenner transitioned to a woman. Thompson married David Foster in 1999, and the couple went on to raise Brody and his brother Brandon together.
Brody remembered on the podcast, “I’d randomly see [Jenner] – ‘him’ at the time – you know, here and there…but [Kris] would tell me that I would write on cards, ‘Why doesn’t dad call me on my birthday?’…I think not having Bruce around growing up and her doing that transition, it was tough just being her son…”
Brody shared, “I had an incredible mother. Father, Bruce, at the time, wasn’t around that much. They split, and then he met a woman, she had kids as well. The woman that he met…they had kids together.”
Asked how he felt about the experience of growing up on television, given Caitlyn’s involvement in the family reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Brody admitted, “To be honest a little bit abandoned.”
However, he acknowledged, “[Jenner] was going through [her] own struggles, transitions, and it was all that was put on TV, and there were these moments that we would have that was all filmed, and it just felt very invasive and not very genuine, I would say.”
Brody revealed, “Just recently, I got a real, sincere apology… it was the first time in my life that I’ve ever gotten an apology. You know, ‘I’m sorry for not being there,’ and honestly, it meant a lot.”
In July 2023, Brody and his fianceé, Tiarah ‘Tia’ Blanco, welcomed their daughter Honey. Brody shared, “I’m not living for myself anymore. I’m living for her…I think it’s gonna make me a better father.”
He further speculated on fatherhood, “I think when you have kids, you need to accept a little bit of responsibility, and the things you do are also going to reflect on them. I think it really has shaped me to do everything different to really be there and to be present to my little girl.”
