Broadway Star Nick Cordero
Broadway actor Nick Cordero has had his right leg amputated after suffering complications from the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Cordero, a 41-year-old Tony Award nominee, has been unconscious and on a ventilator in intensive care at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Amanda Kloots, his wife, has been sharing updates on his condition on her Instagram posts.
“I got a phone call from the hospital saying that Nick made it out of surgery alive and he is headed to his room to rest and recover! AMEN! He is hearing us!!! He is hearing the support, the love, and your voices every day. I just know it. Thank you, God for watching over him and for the incredible doctors and nurses!” she wrote.
Blood clotting has been noticed as a symptom among some patients with COVID-19.
He was initially given blood thinners for the clotting, but the treatment had to stop because it caused the internal bleeding.
“We took him off blood thinners, but that again was going to cause some clotting in the right leg, so the right leg will be amputated today,” Kloots said.
The GoFundMe fundraiser that she started has raised over $350,000.
