Britney Spears, 42, took to Instagram to share a video of herself in a wedding dress, telling fans she had “married myself.”
The pop star posed for the camera in an ivory gown and veil while “Fields of Gold” by Sting played in the background.
“The day I married myself,” the singer captioned her post. “Bringing it back because it might seem embarrassing or stupid, but I think it’s the most brilliant thing I’ve ever done!!!”
Spears’ post comes after she and her ex-husband, Sam Asghari, 30, settled their divorce in May.
The former couple were married for less than two years after tying the knot in June 2022.
Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023, walking away with nothing because he and the singer had signed a prenuptial agreement that required him to marry for two years before he was entitled to any money.
The pair will be declared legally single on December 2, as California law requires a six-month waiting period.
Court papers previously stated that they had separated on July 30, 2023, stemming from “irreconcilable differences that have led to the irremediable breakdown of the marriage, making it impossible for the parties to live together as husband and wife.”
In March, Asghari spoke in an interview, saying he had nothing but love for Spears.
“I’ve always hated people leaving a certain relationship — and at some point, they told each other they love each other, and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other,” Asghari said. “That’s something I’m never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that’s always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life.”
