Britney Spears has publicly called out her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears after she was interviewed on Good Morning America to discuss her memoir and strained relationship with the pop icon.
Jamie Lynn’s interview, made in anticipation of her memoir Things I Should Have Said, was mostly focused on the sisters’ relationship and her knowledge of Britney’s conservatorship that ended last year. Jamie Lynn claimed to have had little knowledge or financial involvement of the conservatorship, and called Britney’s behavior prior to being placed in it “erratic, paranoid and spiraling.”
She was also asked why Britney said seeing her perform remixes of the pop star’s old hits at the 2017 Radio Disney Awards “hurt me deeply,” and responded by saying “I was doing a tribute to honor my sister and all that she’s done… Truthfully, I don’t know why that bothers her.”
In a series of photos with long text dumps posted to Twitter, Britney rebuked a couple of her sister’s statements. She first questioned Jamie Lynn’s assessment of her behavior, writing, “She was never around me much 15 years ago at that time… so why are they even talking about that unless she wants to sell a book at my expense?”
Interestingly, the “Toxic” singer spent much more time discussing the remix part of the interview than any other. “I know it may sound like a silly thing to most people but I wrote a lot of my songs and my sister was the baby. She never had to work for anything. Everything was always given to her,” Spears began, explaining that she was rebuffed for 13 years when asking repeatedly to be able to perform remixes to her own songs.
She wrapped up the message with harsh words against her family saying the “lesson learned from all this don’t trust people or anyone… make your cats and dogs your family and take care of your own damn self!”
Britney also went back and forth between discussing Jamie Lynn’s interview and bizarre asides complaining about a high fever and a security guard who wouldn’t leave her residence to get her medication.
