Britney Spears’ manager, Larry Rudolph, resigned on Monday and said his client wanted to retire from the music industry.
Rudolph told Spears’ co-conservators, Jamie Spears and court-appointed conservator Jodi Montgomery, that he was resigning as the singer’s manager.
“It has been over 2 years since Britney and I last communicated, at which time she informed me she wanted to take an indefinite work hiatus,” he wrote in the letter. “Earlier today, I became aware that Britney had been voicing her intention to officially retire. And as her manager, I believe it is in Britney’s best interest for me to resign from her team as my professional services are no longer needed.”
Rudolph has been Brintey’s manager since 1995. He has worked with several artists, including Aerosmith, Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, O-Town, will.i.am, Toni Braxton, Nicole Scherzinger, Swizz Beatz and Kim Petras.
In June, Britney opened up about her conservatorship in a Los Angeles court and said that her conservators “played a huge role in punishing me.”
Rudolph claimed in his letter that he had “never been a part of [Britney’s] conservatorship nor its operations.”
“I am not privy to many of these details,” Rudolph explained. “I was originally hired at Britney’s request to help manage and assist her with her career. I will always be incredibly proud of what we accomplished over our 25 years together. I wish Britney all the health and happiness in the world, and I’ll be there for her if she ever needs me again, just as I always have been.”
Rudolph resigned days after Bessemer Trust, the company that controlled the singer’s estate with Jamie, was granted its request to be removed as Britney’s co-conservator.
The company said Britney’s claim of “irreparable harm to her interests” was their reason for the request and claimed that they believed the singer “consented” to having them as co-conservators of her estate in November 2020.
This leaves Jamie as the only conservator of her estate. Montgomery has been Britney’s temporary conservator since 2019; previously, it was Jamie who had control over all her life decisions.
In recent days, Jamie and Montgomery have argued over who is responsible for Britney’s “suffering.”
