Singer Britney Spears and her ex-husband Kevin Federline may end up in a battle for child support.
The two musicians were married in 2004, and their divorce was finalized three years later. Federline and Spears had two sons together, Jayden James and Sean Preston, both of whom are under Federline’s custody.
However, Federline now wants Spears to pay an increased amount of child support given the success she’s enjoyed thanks to her Las Vegas residency and Britney: Piece of Me worldwide tour. Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline’s attorney, confirmed to ET that his client would like to “at least double” his currently monthly allotment of $20,000.
Though the monthly payments of $20,000 sufficiently covers the majority of the boys’ expenses, Federline’s own expenses only equal around half of the monthly income he receives from his ex-wife. Spears and her team want to know where exactly this money would be spent, as the money her kids need hasn’t increased. Kaplan is willing to take the dispute to court if need be
Jamie Spears, Britney Spears’ father and the court-appointed conservator, tried to write “a monthly budget for Federline as opposed to discussing an increase in child support when the two sides met last week.” Federline departed from the meeting feeling “insulted.”
