Britney Spears would like to clear up some things. In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the 37-year-old pop icon assured her fans that “all is well” amidst growing rumors that she was suffering from mental health issues and had checked into a wellness facility.
“There’s rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said,” wrote Spears as to why she’s chosen to speak out. “I am trying to take a moment for myself,” she said, “but don’t worry, I’ll be back very soon.”
The rumors about Spears’ mental health have been circulating since the beginning of April, when People suggested Spears had checked into a wellness facility while trying to cope with her father’s declining health. A post from her Instagram on April 3 sparked the rumors, when she captioned a picture “we all need to take a little me time.”
Spears has had a history of mental health struggles. In 2008, her father, Jaime Spears, was named permanent co-conservator of her estate, along with an attorney, Andrew Wallet. In January, Spears announced that her father had recently been hospitalized, and cancelled her Domination tour in order to care for him.
