Britney Spears’ First Husband, Jason Alexander, Says He Was ‘Tricked’ Into Ending 55-Hour Marriage

Britney Spear’s first husband, Jason Alexande, is now speaking out about how the pop star’s family intervened in his 55-hour marriage to the pop star in Las Vegas in 2004 resulting in divorce.

On a New Year’s trip to Las Vegas in 2004 just after the release of Spears’ fourth album In The Zone, Spears and her hometown sweetheart Alexander jetted to Las Vegas and wed on the spur of the moment at Little Chapel in Las Vegas.

Alexander is now blaming Spears’ family for bringing in a high-powered legal team to force an annulment less than 55-hours after the marriage assuming it would ruin the singer’s image at the peak of her fame. At the time, the annulment stated that Spears “lacked understanding of her actions, to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage.”

“What they did to Britney and me should have rung warning bells,” said Alexander.

“The men in black swooped in, along with her mom and other family members, and they made us sign paperwork under duress to end our marriage,” Alexander said in a recent interview. “We didn’t want to annul it. They lied to us. It was always about controlling Britney and controlling her money.”

Alexander said there were signs as early as 2004 for the future of Spear’s 13-year conservatorship after being manipulated into thinking he’d end Spears’ career due to marriage.

“I was tricked by her mom, dad and lawyers into signing the annulment,” he said. “I was told our marriage could hurt Britney’s career. I loved her and was a naive kid who had been raised to trust and respect my elders, just like she had.”

“We were told that if we still felt the same way about each other in six months, then we could have a big, white wedding. They strung me along for 30 days, which was how long it took to get the annulment finalized, so I couldn’t contest it, and then they changed Britney’s number so I couldn’t talk to her. There have always been dark forces in her life.”

At the time, Spear’s PR team made a mockery of the wedding making the singer release a statement saying “it was a joke taken too far” in reference to the ceremony. The Louisiana native said his life changed overnight after the media made a joke out of the wedding.

The  39-year-old singer broke her silence for the first time last month about her conservative battle. Spears called the conservatorship “abusive” and that she was forced to perform against her will for the past 13-years, unable to marry her boyfriend of four years Sam Asghari and forbidden to have more children.

“My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship and my management who played a huge role in punishing me when I said no—ma’am, they should be in jail,” Spears told the judge in her court hearing.

Alexander was moved by Spears’ testimony in court admitting that he’ll “never stop loving” Spears. “When she made that speech to the court, I broke down,” he said. ‘Hearing her put her side of things, arguing to get her life back, it was raw and powerful. She’s waited 13 years to say those words.”
