A British nurse has been found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill six others at her hospital.
Lucy Letby, 33, injected air into the infants’ blood and stomachs, overfed them with milk, physically assaulted them and poisoned them with insulin.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), she inflicted harm on the babies at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016 and attempted to trick her co-workers into thinking they died by natural causes.
Doctors at the hospital noticed an increase in the number of babies who were dying. Consultants also alerted hospital management about the high mortality rate of infants under Letby, but their concerns were ignored.
In September 2016, Letby was put on clerical duties after two male triplets died and another baby boy collapsed. She was later informed of the allegations but earned a favorable ruling. The doctors were then told to apologize to Letby. She was set to return to the neonatal division in early 2017, but the hospital contacted the police to investigate.
From 2018 to 2020, Letby was arrested three times in connection to the police review. Investigators found handwritten notes during their searches of her home.

One read: “I don’t deserve to live. I killed them on purpose because I’m not good enough to care for them.” Another said, “I am a horrible person” and in capital letters, “I am evil I did this.”
The UK government has begun an official review into the murders, including how the questions raised by clinicians were handled.
Letby will be sentenced on August 21.
