Actor and writer Eric Sykes, 89, died Wednesday following a brief illness. Sykes, who got his start writing scripts for BBC shows, most recently starred opposite Nicole Kidman in The Others and as Riddle House gardner Frank Bryce in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Sykes was perhaps best known for writing 24 episodes of the classic radio comedy The Goon Show with the late Spike Milligan.
Comedian Stephen Fry mourned Sykes on Twitter. "Oh no! Eric Sykes gone? An adorable, brilliant, modest, hilarious, innovative and irreplaceable comic master. Farewell, dear, dear man," he tweeted.
