President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump recently met with their French counterparts, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, for a three-day visit where all parties seemed to get along well.
As a first lady herself, the 65-year-old Brigitte Macron took a sympathetic tone when conversing about Melania with Le Monde, a French newspaper. According to the Huffington Post’s translations, Macron discussed how Melania “cannot do anything” due to the strict security regulations. “She can’t even open a window at the White House,” she says.
Macron’s situation, although relatable to Melania’s, does allow her more freedom than her United States counterpart enjoys. “She can’t stick her nose outside. She’s much more constrained than I am. Me, every day, I’m out in Paris.” She makes a habit of regularly visiting her three children from her previous marriage along with her grandkids, admitting she tries to go out every day.

Macron continued, relating to how everything a first lady says or does is analyzed. “I have the impression that every word is a word too many. I’m constantly holding myself back. That’s the hardest part: There’s never really any time off, never a moment when you can be completely calm.”
Nevertheless, Macron noted how they both got along very well with each other. They share their sense of humor, with France’s first lady noting that Melania is “really fun,” and a “kind, charming, intelligent and very open” woman.
